Mountain Lion Upgrade Clocks in at 13 Minutes on Retina MacBook
The Mountain Lion upgrade appears to be downloading and installing much faster on the new Retina MacBook Pro in comparison to other Mac computers.
The new Notebook model was able to upgrade in just 13 minutes, according to data recorded by Tekserve. The second fastest Apple computers to install the upgrade were the new line of MacBook Airs including the 11-inch and 13-inch models.
The MacBook Pro models without a Retina display installed the software in over 50 minutes. The 2011 line of iMacs downloaded and installed the software in just over 40 mins. The huge difference in installation time can be attributed to the new Retina MacBook and line of MacBook Airs featuring SSD while the older Macs have HD.
The Solid State Drive really speeds things up in situations such as this one and completely outclasses the average hard drive.
Apple launched its new Mountain Lion OS X software for Mac computers earlier today.
The software is currently available for $19.99 in the Mac App Store and includes more than 200 innovative new features such as iCloud integration, the all new Messages app, Notification Center, system-wide sharing, Facebook integration, Dictation, AirPlay and Game Center.
It can be purchased and used as an upgrade for either Lion or Snow Leopard OS.
