National Chocolate Ice Cream Day

Thursday has arrived bringing National Chocolate Ice Cream Day where people everywhere are celebrating America's favorite flavor.

The holiday arrives every year on June 7, marking the perfect time to cool down on a hot day with the cold treat.

Ice cream is made from milk and cream that is combined with fruits or other flavors and is believed to have originated in China around 200 B.C., according to BBC.

The frozen treat comes in several flavors and varieties, and famous vendors include Ben & Jerry's, Lula's Sweet Apothecary, Emack & Bolio's, Haagen-Daz, and many more.

The Japanese made green tea ice cream a popular flavor, while Italians have special pistachio gelato. Ice cream can also come in forms such as frozen custard, frozen yogurt, and sorbet.

While ice cream can be served in a bowl, cone, or used as a filling, toppings for the sweet treat include chocolate syrup, caramel, sprinkles, chocolate chips, among countless others. Of the many flavors available, ice cream also comes mixed with chunks cookies, chocolate, fruit, and candy.

On Twitter, ice cream lovers across the nation are sounding off about National Chocolate Ice Cream Day.

On National Chocolate Ice Cream Day Cate Twitter user Cate wrote, "Eat up," while Melly posted, "I will totally be celebrating!"

"This day was made for me," wrote Koya.

Velvet Ice Cream reminded customers on Twitter: "You can celebrate with our tasty chocolate ice cream or kick it up a notch with Chocolate Lovers Trio…"

This month also sees holidays National Flag Day on the 14th as well as Father's Day on the third Sunday of the month- the 17th. The longest day of the year in 2012 will occur on June 20, marking the Summer Solstice.
