NY Knicks NBA 2015 News, Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Injured, Out for 4-6 Months for Knee Surgery
New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony will have a season-ending left knee surgery which, as announced by team president Phil Jackson, could miss him about "four to six months" from the league.
A report from ESPN.com stated that Anthony's procedure, which will be performed by team orthopedist Dr. Answorth Allen, "includes a left knee patella tendon debridement and repair."
USA Today provided a thorough detail of the surgery:
"The procedure is a knee debridement, which will remove dead, damaged, or infected tissue that is causing pain and discomfort and will improve the healing potential of the remaining healthy tissue."
"What we're finding out from the medical is on court, it could be four to six months," Jackson explained during the Wednesday news conference. "We can't put it at a timetable until after the surgery. But that's what they're saying. They say it can be anywhere between four to six months for Carmelo to be back on the floor."
Nonetheless, Jackson remained hopeful and "really confident" that the power forward will "heal well" and will be fine by the start of the next season.
As revealed, the eight-time NBA All-Star player has been battling the left knee injury for months already. He previously underwent an "arthroscopic procedure" on the same knee in 2011.
Jackson however clarified that "it wasn't something that was sudden from [last] summer's activity."
Despite the team's awful 10-43 record for this season, Adam Wells of Bleacher Report noted that this isn't exactly a "bad year" for Anthony. Averaging more than 24 points and six rebounds per game, the Brooklyn native had definitely met what the team has expected of him.
