'New Girl' season 5 spoilers: Focus on other characters

Last season, the hit comedy series "New Girl" ended in a surprising way as Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece (Hannah Simone) finally confessed their undying love for each other, and Coach (Damon Wayans, Jr.) left the loft for good.

In the upcoming season, the pilot episode will be centered on Schmidt and Cece's engagement party. The title of the episode will be "No Girl" as a reference to Jess' (Zooey Deschanel) absence since in the show she will be sequestered on jury duty. However, the guys will keep themselves updated on her as they follow trial on the news.

The new season will put more focus on the other characters this time around since actress Zooey Deschanel will be taking a leave of absence due to her pregnancy. This season will put emphasis on the relationship of Schmidt and Cece with their engagement and impending wedding. However, it will not be smooth sailing for the newly engaged couple as they find some obstacles and roadblocks in their way. The absence of Jess allows the creators and the writers to explore the background of the other characters more.

Actress Anna George has just been cast as Priyanka Parikh, Cece's very feisty mother who will visit the United States, in order to look at her daughter's life choices. She will disapprove of Schmidt at first as they clash the first time they meet.

Meanwhile, actress Nora Dunn will take a turn once more as Louise, Schmidt's very Jewish mother who probably will not approve of Cece. However, Cece will do anything to get her future mother-in-law's approval, going so far as to professing her love for her future mother-in-law in a scene. Actor John Cho will also join the show as a guest for a couple of episodes, but there is no word yet on his role.

Comedian Taran Killiam from "SNL" will also guest star next season. He will play Fred, the new boyfriend of Jess, who has the best parents. So great in fact that Jess is considering never breaking up with him, in order to remain close to his parents.

In the new season, fans might even see Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess get back together. The show's creator Liz Meriwether talked about the possibility of the two reuniting since it was clearly seen in last season's finale that they still have feelings for each other. Meriwether said that she actually likes the relationship of Nick and Jess. There is a huge possibility that we will see Coach again next season in the wedding of Schmidt and Cece.

No word yet on when the new season will return, but when it does, fans will get to celebrate its 100th episode. The show will return some time next year.
