Nintendo 3DS Update: Handheld to Introduce Youtube, Miiverse, and Wii U Funds Account Link

Nintendo 3DS will be getting a huge update next month that will see the handheld get YouTube, the Miiverse, and a means of combining the 3DS funds with the Wii U's.

To link the accounts, a gamer would just have to sign in both platforms with the same information when the update goes live.

The announcement was made at this morning's Nintendo Direct conference that was live streamed on their site at 11 a.m. EST. Initially it was thought Nintendo would announce a slew of new games coming in the new year, but many feel this information is better.

The 3DS will be a highly sought after commodity this holiday season as many retailers are having great deals on games and accessories for the handheld.

3DS games, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Pokemon X and Y, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, and a host of other games will get $5 to $10 off at Kmart. Certain 3DS games will go down to $15 to $24.99, while the new 2DS will get a $10 drop to $119.99.

Fans of Nintendo are hoping the company finds a way to link the Wii U and 3DS account systems into one, but so far it is not in their plans.

"We don't have anything new to announce, unfortunately, other than we've definitely heard that feedback many times from both inside and outside the company," Nintendo manager of business development Dan Adelman told Destructoid. "It's definitely something that we're very much aware of."

"All development for the infrastructure really happens out of Japan, so we've kind of communicated this need in the market, and they're very much aware of it and working towards really just always improving the eShop," he continued.

The 3DS has essentially carried Nintendo through their current rough patch as they are waiting for the Wii U to catch up. Games such as Pokemon X and y have catapulted the 3DS even further.
