Nintendo Amiibo News: What New Amiibos Are Coming In 2016?
Nintendo's amiibo have been all the rage since the first set of amiibo figurines was released in November 2014. The interactive toy figurines bring a different gaming experience especially on Nintendo consoles, the 3DS and the Wii U. Since then, gamers have been eagerly watching out which of their favorite game characters will be getting an amiibo figurine. The year 2016, according to a report in Digital Trends, will bring another wave of releases which include "Final Fantasy VII's" Cloud Strife, Sega's Bayonetta, Corrin of "Fire Emblem Fates," "Animal Crossing" characters, and other game-specific amiibo.
Amiibo figurines are equipped with near-field communication technology which when used with a Wii U GamePad or the new Nintendo 3DS will unlock features and functions in a compatible game. The first amiibo figures were introduced for "Super Smash Bros." on the Wii U, but later on, support for other games were made available. Amiibo are also capable of storing character data for one game only. Stored data is updated when the amiibo is in use.
According to the report, 2016 will have several waves of amiibo releases. The most prominent of these releases is Cloud Strife of "Final Fantasy VII" and Sega's Bayonetta who will be joining the line-up of "Super Smash Bros." figurines. In terms of game updates, Cloud Strife will be arriving first as a DLC character in January, while Bayonetta will be arriving in February. A character from "Fire Emblem Fates," Corrin, will also be getting an amiibo within the year.
In January, an amiibo of a fighter from "Super Smash Bros." called Lucas will be launched together with "Animal Crossing" series amiibo of Mr. Resetti, Blathers, Kicks and Celeste. According to Nintendo, a "Shovel Knight" amiibo has also been released.
The March line-up of amiibos include Ryu of "Street Fighter" and Roy of "Fire Emblem." They will be joining the roster of characters for "Super Smash Bros." These will be available on March 18 in the U.S.
Game-specific amiibo are also set to be released in 2016. A gold version of Capcom's Mega Man will be coming together with the release of the "Mega Man" Legacy Collection for the 3DS. For the special edition "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD," an amiibo figure with Link as a wolf and Midna will also be available on March 4.
