Obiwan Kenobi Arrested for Hit and Run

A California man named Obiwan Kenobi has been arrested after fleeing the scene of an accident in Roseville, police revealed Monday.

Roseville police arrested 37-year-old Obiwan Kenobi last weekend for his involvement in a March 19 accident that resulted in a five-car pileup. Although no lives were lost in the accident, two people complained of pain following the wreck, according to officials.

Kenobi's reckless driving was reportedly responsible for the five-car pile up and according to police, Kenobi fled the scene of the accident in his green Toyota.

The 37-year-old was being held in the Placer County Jail on $17,500 bail but he is due to appear in court on Monday.

The hit-and-run is not Kenobi's first run-in with the law as upon his arrest, the 37-year-old had an outstanding misdemeanor petty theft charge.

Kenobi was born Benjamin Cale Feit, according to a 2008 article by the Lincoln News Messenger.

He legally changed his name to Obiwan Kenobi in 1999 because of a radio show contest, which offered $1,000 to the first person to legally change their name to that of the "Star Wars" Jedi master.

"I was at my buddy's house listening to the radio when I hear about it. I didn't do anything until the next day when I heard it again and it was still going on," Kenobi told the paper at the time.

Obiwan Kenobi was a primary character in the "Star Wars" series. The Jedi master is one of only four characters to appear in all six "Star Wars" films, along with Anakin Skywalker, R2-D2, and C-3PO.

English actor Alec Guinness portrayed the character in the original "Star Wars" trilogy and Ewan McGregor, a Scottish-born actor, played the character in the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy, directed by George Lucas.
