Palin Divorce Email Was Tongue in Cheek, Says Aide

An aide to Sarah Palin has claimed that she was joking when she spoke about the prospect of divorcing her husband in 2007.

The alleged joke came in the form of an email in 2007 and is now said to have been "tongue in cheek."

Palin's aide, Doug McMarlin, reportedly sent an email to the Huffington Post on Saturday saying, "Governor Palin was clearly speaking tongue in cheek in the email."

McMarlin has been retained by Palin intermittently to work for her since she left office as Alaska governor in 2009.

On Friday an email emerged that sparked rumors Palin had been serious about divorce in her earlier email. However, McMarlin has come out quickly to quash any rumors. He said, "This email was during her fifth pregnancy and the Palin marriage remains one of the most solid in any environment. We thank the media for their, er, continuing attention to this particular issue."

Sarah Palin earlier this week criticized President Obama's apology over the Quran burning incident in Afghanistan that has sparked widespread protests, and the killing of two Americans by protesters.

Palin urged the Afghan army to apologize in a message posted on Twitter. "Obama apologizes for inadvertent Koran burning; now the US trained & protected Afghan Army can apologize for killing our soldiers yesterday," wrote Palin.
