PS4 vs. Xbox One: Could the Playstation 4 'Crush' the Xbox One?

Recent reports put the PS4 in position to "crush" the Xbox One when the two go head to head this fall. What does Sony have that Microsoft maybe did not figure out yet?

Techradar reports that every console cycle usually has one system that comes out on top as the most dominant. Two of the last three times it was a Sony console. The original Playstation beat out the Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn. The PS2 beat Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo Gamecube, and the original Xbox. The Xbox 360 and PS3 went back in forth with the slight edge to Microsoft. Meanwhile the Nintendo Wii outsold both of them, but was not even close to being played as much as the other two.

With this next generation of consoles, experts and even sales indicate the Wii U is already out of the race because of its decline just months into its life. The PS4 and Xbox One seems to have all of the same capabilities as far as specs, and technology, however, the functionalities and the way the consoles operate with certain policies are far apart. This is where Microsoft, "dropped the ball."

Xbox One has been up and down with so many of their features regarding online play, used games, and network options. They stood firm on their original ideas until backlash buried them before they started. Since the bad reception, the company has backtracked and reversed many of the policies and ideas they had in place for the new system.

Some users found this as a sign of weakness as they retreated and did not even properly explain the features. They gave up just to please gamers and try to avoid negative press. Others saw this as a sign of good faith from the company. Either way, the Xbox One is not what Microsoft had in mind for their next generation console anymore. Instead of doing something innovative, now they are trying to chase the PS4.

The Playstation 4 came out the gate strong. They have not wavered or faltered in policies or in functionality of their console. At the E3 conference Sony was really able to showcase their system and get a strong backing right away. The tech world was impressed. Microsoft left lots of questions.

Unfortunately for Microsoft the Xbox One could very well do a lot of things better than the PS4, but everyone is already on the Playstation bandwagon. The Xbox One is being burned by everyone, and perhaps unfairly.

The pre-sales are a perfect indicator of this. The PS4 is outselling the Xbox One so far, although the numbers are closer than one would think. However, come launch week, the early PS4 buyers could influence people who are still deciding by swaying them away from the Xbox.

Another key factor is price. The Xbox retails at $499, while the PS4 is $100 cheaper, and so are all of its accessories, bundles, and controllers.

Only time will tell which will be the dominating force that takes console gaming into a new generation, but as of right now the buzz seems to be in favor of PS4.
