PSV was situated in Group B against Wolfsburg, CSKA Moskva and Manchester United.

Despite not being favoured as one of the teams that would move on, PSV did well and won three of its six match-ups to finish as a runner-up in the group.

Behind Wolfsburg, PSV had 10 points and were only two points adrift of the top spot. Now they have a chance to make a splash in the knockout stages as they face one of the more solid teams in the competition.

On the other hand, Atletico Madrid was also part of a tough group as Group C had Benfica, Galatasaray and Astana. Madrid won four of six match-ups and only lost once to end up on the top spot of the group and three points ahead of closest rivals Benfica.

In this battle, Madrid is clearly the favourite as it has a better squad on paper and competes in a relatively more difficult league in the Spanish La Liga.

It is undoubtedly prepared for this match-up and already having experienced reaching the final of the competition recently, it will want to go through it again.

However, Madrid should not overlook PSV as it may be in for a surprise against the Dutch giants. If PSV can hold its own in the first leg and get a very good result, it may have enough to see things through to the next round.
