Samsung Galaxy S7 Rumors: Codename and Early Details Leak

A leak has emerged that Samsung is currently working on the Galaxy S7, with alleged specs emerging together with the new smartphone's codename.

Samsung has just released the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5 in August, and already rumors have emerged it will soon be unveiling a new flagship device, the Galaxy S7, after a leak made the rounds online featuring the codename "Lucky."

The news emerged after an unknown Samsung handset was spotted getting benchmarked at the South Korean electronics manufacturer's Semiconductor Global division Wednesday.

Sporting the codename, Samsung LUCKY-LTE, it has been speculated to be the Galaxy S7 carrying an octa-core 1.38 GHz processor that may either be the Exynos 8890, based on a Geekbench listing pointing out a universal8890 motherboard, or Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 820 SoC.

"Lucky" has showed up with a high 65,775 AnTuTu score in a few benchmarks over the last few days, with the test unit said to be featuring a 5.7-inch QHD touchscreen display, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of onboard storage.

Running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop at the time of the testing, although it may eventually be powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow by the time it is launched, "Lucky" also carried a 16MP rear camera and a 5MP front shooter. Speculations have emerged the final version of the handset will be sporting a 20MP ISOCELL snapper instead of the camera the test unit held.

Other rumors point toward the return of the microSD slot. While the Galaxy S7's UFS 2.0 memory has been found to be incompatible with expandable storage, Samsung might remedy this setback by the time the smartphone launches in the market.

Another piece of information emerging out of Korea suggests the Galaxy S7 will be released in two sizes, the "Lucky" test unit's 5.8-inch model with a 4K resolution, and a 5.1-inch display on a more moderately priced iteration.

There has been no whisper on when Samsung is planning to unveil the Galaxy S7, but there may be a possibility it will be introduced during the Mobile World Congress in February next year.
