Samsung Gear S2 Rumors: Release Date Set Next Month? (VIDEO)

Samsung is reportedly preparing its Gear S2 wearable for an early October release, less than a month after unveiling the smartwatch line at the IFA 2015.

South Korean tech giant Samsung is said to be releasing its Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic in the US, UK and South Korea on October 2, with the Gear S2 3G to be available at a later date.

The Gear S2 3G is also reported as exclusive for US and American markets as soon as it is released, and will be marketed as a limited edition with only a set number of units manufactured for purchase.

The new circular smartwatch line will come with a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED display, a stainless steel framework, and interchangeable wrist straps. Carrying a 1GHz Exynos 3250 chipset for the Bluetooth and Classic iterations and a Qualcomm MSM8x26 powering the 3G version, the Gear S2 carries 512MB of RAM with 4GB of internal storage, a 250mAh battery for the Bluetooth and Classic versions, and a 300mAh battery for the 3G model.

The Gear S2 will run on Tizen instead of Android wear, and will come in a dark grey variant sporting a grey strap, a silver variant with a white strap, either with or without 3G, and the Classic black model with a leather strap.

The Gear S2 features an Android-looking home button on its side, and a rotating bezel / control wheel that will allow users to scroll through their choice of menus and apps, as well as zoom and skip tracks with a mechanical clicking sound as a guide to launching apps.

The 3G version of the smartwatch also allows users to call contacts, and receive calls despite the absence of a smartphone. With a touchscreen display, it also comes with an integrated mic for S Voice commands, as well as wireless charging.

Samsung has collaborated with Italian designer Alessandro Mendini to create a number of styles for the watch face and bands to suit a variety of user tastes. All of the wearable's versions are waterproof with an IP68 rating to handle up to 1-meter depths for a maximum of 30 minutes.

The Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic are reportedly available for preorder in Canada, with Best Buy offering them at a price point of C$400 (US$301) for the former, and C$430 (US$324) for the latter. Based on its published listing, Best Buy will start shipping the wearables on October 2.
