Samsung Launches iPod-Like Galaxy Player Media Device

It seems like Samsung is trying to steal Apple's thunder in more ways than one by launching an iPod-like Galaxy Player device this year.

The electronics giant already released the 3.6-inch Galaxy Player that is currently available at Best Buy and will follow with another 4.2-inch version.

"With the two new Galaxy Players, available in 4.2-inch WVGA screen or 3.6-inh HVGA screen variants, gaming, videos and music are more fun than ever," said Samsung in a press release.

The Galaxy Player runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and easily connects to Wi-Fi hotspots anywhere and can get instant access to the latest content. Users can also use it to play their own videos and music in different formats.

It can connect to other devices using USB 2.0 or Bluetooth 3.0 and other media can be accessed through its microSD slot.

The devices also feature dual-stereo speakers that can deliver incredible sound quality for music, video and gaming, according to Samsung.

The new Galaxy Tab 2 line and Galaxy players will be available for purchase at Best Buy, Amazon, Tiger Direct as well as many others.

The 3.6-inch Galaxy Player can currently be purchased exclusively at Best Buy for $149.99 for a limited time as it will be released at other outlets in the near future.

Customers can also reserve the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 starting Thursday April 12, and that device is priced at $249.99. The 4.2-inch Galaxy Player and 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 2 will be available for pre-order on May 4 and will retail at $199.99 and $399.99.

The only question left would be why a Galaxy Player would be worth purchasing over an iPod?

One of the main advantages of the Player would be its ability to access media through the use of a microSD card. The extension of memory is unlimited giving it a slight advantage over the iPod, which comes only with a set storage amount.
