San Diego Chargers NFL 2015 News, Rumors: Chargers Look to Keep Other Teams Out of LA

The NFL is coming back to the Los Angeles area, but before that can happen a new stadium has to be built, the league has to approve a team or teams to relocate, relocation fees must be paid, and somehow the San Diego Chargers must be appeased.

The Chargers feel like the LA market is partly theirs as they are the only NFL team that has made business inroads there; a different team moving to the major metropolitan area will assuredly hurt their bottom line. Beyond the fact that the Chargers need a new stadium of their own.

The team laid out their argument in a statement issued to the San Diego committee looking into keeping the Chargers in their current home.

"Simply put, it would not be fair to the Chargers — a team that has worked for 14 years to find a stadium solution in San Diego County — to allow other teams that themselves abandoned the LA market to now return and gut the Chargers' local revenue stream," the team said.

The team continued its tough talk in a letter to San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer. Pro Football talk obtained a copy of the letter and had Chargers General Counsel on their NBC Sports Radio show who stated that the tone of this debate is not an accident by the team. It now seems clear the Chargers want a real solution to their stadium issue.

"We are keeping a close eye on developments in L.A. We do not have a choice but to also monitor and evaluate our options there. Simply put, it would be irresponsible for the Chargers not to be taking every possible step to protect the future of the franchise," they stated.
