'Sleepy Hollow' season 3 spoilers: New villains will be introduced

Last season, "Sleepy Hollow" killed off a highly disliked character of the series, Katrina (Katia Winter), the wife of Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison), in an epic final showdown. Crane himself killed his wife, choosing his demon slaying partner instead. This leaves the upcoming season open for new story lines.

In the new season, the headless horseman (Neil Jackson), who has been a central character since the show began, will no longer be around. Instead, there will be a new main villain that will pose an even bigger threat to Abbie (Nicole Beharie) and Crane.

The forthcoming season will introduce some new villains that Crane and Abbie will have to do battle with. The first villain they will face with is the notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper and the second villain one is Abyzou, a tooth fairy that isn't anything like the ones people tell their children about. The third one is a Draugar. A Draugur is a battalion of undead British soldiers who return to Sleepy Hollow under the orders of a General Howe.

The brand-new season will see the return of old friends as Joe Corbin (Zach Appelman) and Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) come back to the town, in order to aid Abbie and Crane in the impending fight. The show also has some new additions to the cast with actress Shannyn Sossamon as Pandora, actress Nikki Reed as Betsy Ross, and actor Lance Gross as Daniel Reynolds, the new boss of Abbie.

In the second episode of the upcoming season, titled "Whispers in the Dark," will feature a character named Pandora who opens a box that unleashes a sinister evil. The episode alludes to the story of Pandora's Box. Pandora might become the season's new big bad.

In the previous season, several major characters have been killed off the show in an effort to clean house and fix some major character issues. Characters, such as Frank Irving (Orlando Jones), Abbie's former captain; Henry Parrish (John Noble), Katrina's son; and Katrina Crane died during the course of the season.

Mark Goffman, the former showrunner of the series, stepped down prior to the renewal of the show and has been replaced by Cliffton Campbell. The new showrunner, hopefully, has some new and fresh ideas, in order to enhance the direction that the show will run.

Campbell is already working on a crossover with the hit series "Bones" this season, but that crossover episode will not happen until some time next year when both shows hit mid-season. Fans hope that Campbell can create a more compelling show that can last for years to come.

The newest season of Sleepy Hollow will air on Oct. 1.
