Square Enix Confirms 'Deus Ex: Mankind Divided'

Over the past three days, Square Enix opened a new Twitch channel called "Can't Kill Progress" and teased the coming of a new game. The channel showed an interactive alternate reality game. The scene has a hooded man inside a bare prison cell with eight cameras – viewers eventually find out that his name is Thomas and that he is in need of medication. He also does not know why he is being held.

The alternate reality game eventually reveals that game developer Square Enix is working on a new game in one of its Western studios. The report mentions three studios – Eidos Montreal, Crystal Dynamics and IO Interactive – and each of them have specific intellectual properties that they are responsible for. Eidos Montreal worked on "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" released in 2011, IO Interactive is speculated to be working on the next "Hitman," while Crystal Dynamics is responsible for the reboot of the "Tomb Raider" games.

As it turned out, Square Enix was in fact teasing the development of the next installment to a "Deus Ex" game. Through their Twitter account, they confirmed that the title of the next game is "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided." This was also confirmed with a cover feature in the gaming magazine Game Informer.

Another report in the Sunday Express shared some of the story details of the new game. The setting is two years after the events of "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" and will see the return of Adam Jensen, who goes after "augmented terrorists" together with a task force created by Interpol. Apparently, transhumans during this period were already "hated and feared."

The report included some of the abilities that will be available to players: remote hack electronic objects, projectile nano blades, indestructible nanoshield.

No official release date has been given for the game.
