'Supergirl' Season 3 News: Katie McGrath Prefers Lena Luthor Not Knowing Girl of Steel's Alter-Ego

While it is unclear if Kara/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) will reveal to Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) that she is the Girl of Steel, McGrath has recently said in an interview that she does not want her character to discover who Supergirl really is.

McGrath's Lena Luthor character has been a part of "Supergirl" for two seasons already, but Lex Luthor's younger sister is still clueless that her friend, Kara, is Supergirl after all. However, according to McGrath, if she had things her way, she would prefer her character not knowing who the Girl of Steel's alter ego is.

"I think it's important for Kara to have someone she doesn't have to be Supergirl with. If Lena knew the truth, she'd always be Supergirl. And she needs to be Kara. That's what this whole season is about, her struggling with her humanity. She has to be solely that person for somebody, and if that person has to be me, it makes me feel special," McGrath said in a recent interview with TV Line.

In the event, though, that her Lena Luthor finds out that Kara and Supergirl are one and the same, McGrath opined that her character may feel betrayed but would eventually understand. After all, according to the actress, her character is level-headed, and she would understand why it would be difficult for Kara to trust a Luthor like her.

Whether Kara will reveal her secret to Lena Luthor in "Supergirl" season 3 or not, one thing is for sure: Kara will find herself struggling with the idea of letting the cat out of the bag. After all, it was no less than Benoist who revealed in a prior interview that one of the things her character will go through in "Supergirl" season 3 is finding herself in a tug-of-war between two opposing ideas as to whether she should reveal to her best friend who she really is.

"She probably struggles with that on a daily basis. (And) she probably knows deep down that it wouldn't be the greatest thing to reveal to someone of that lineage," Benoist said in an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Will Kara eventually reveal herself as Supergirl to Lena Luthor? What circumstances will influence her decision in the event that she will?

Find out as "Supergirl" season 3 airs on Monday evenings over The CW at 8 p.m. EST.
