'The Dark Tower' Movie Moved Back to an August Release
The movie adaptation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" is delayed yet again and leaning towards an August 4 release date, a week after its intended July 28 premiere.
This was not the first time that the movie was delayed. Its original release date for "The Dark Tower" was set in Jan. 13 and was later moved to Feb. 28, until it was further pushed back to the July premiere date.
CinemaCon attendees were not surprised that the film was further delayed. Peter Sciretta of Slashfilm noted that the footages shown from the upcoming movie still needed further touch-ups.

"The footage had some visual effects that looked very early and unfinished for a July 28, 2017 release," Sciretta said, adding that since there is still no trailer released for the film, Sony might be eyeing a delay - which it did.
The CinemaCon preview garnered positive buzz from critics and journalists alike, according to Entertainment Weekly. Readers of the book series, however, are not so happy with the movie's departure from the source material, according to Slashfilm.
In its place, Sony sets "The Emoji Movie" for the July 28 release date. Fans of "The Dark Tower" are however assured by a Sony spokesperson that this will be the last push in the movie's release date, and it will not be moved further back again.
Sony intends for "The Dark Tower" to be a big film and television franchise, and a series based on it is already being developed.
The premise of the movie revolves around Roland the Gunslinger (Idris Elba), one of the last group of knights from the mid-world who pursues The Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), who aims to track down and destroy the so-called tower which is standing at the nexus of all time and space.
"The Dark Tower" is directed by Nikolaj Arcel. Stephen King also has another remake of "It" coming up in September.
