'The Flash' season 2 plot and cast news: New set of 'Flashes' for the next season

The second season of "The Flash" will feature more of the exciting time-traveling and parallel universe shown in the successful first season.

It was announced by The CW that a new Flash will be introduced for season 2. The character "Wally West," who goes by the superhero name of Kid Flash, will be portrayed by "Insurgent" star Keiynan Lonsdale.

As stated in the original comic books, Wally West is the nephew of Iris West. In the series, Iris West is played by Candice Patton. It was reported that Wally West is a big fan of the Flash, a character played by Grant Gustin. His character is expected to gain power after visiting his aunt. Therefore, his character gets the name of Kid Flash.

It was reported by Deadline Hollywood that the show's executive producer Andrew Kreisberg explained how he felt with the new addition to the cast. He said, "Just like when we met [star] Grant [Gustin] for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero. We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show."

Along with Kid Flash, news stated that there will be another Flash for the upcoming season. It was revealed that first Flash, named Garrick, will also be joining the roster of characters. With this, fans can expect that Barry will be experiencing more time travel adventures.

As for other characters, the cast will also be joined by Shantel VanSanten, according to International Business Times. The "One Tree Hill" actress will be taking on the role of Patty Spivot. Her character is an original character from the comic book. She is a forensic scientist, specializing in blood work. It is expected that her character will be the love interest of Barry. They will meet after working together at the police department. In the series, she will play a major female cop, acting as Joe's new partner.

The Flash season 2 is expected to air on the CW this Oct. 6.
