'The Kettering Incident' Season 2 Release Date, News: Series Will Not Return This Year

"The Kettering Incident" has already concluded its first season in Australia and the fate of its future remains in the hands of Foxtel. However, it seems that even the pay-TV network does not have a final decision yet.

Critically praised, "The Kettering Incident" follows Elizabeth Debicki's Dr. Anna Macy as she returns to the town of Kettering after having left many years prior due to her best friend disappearing under mysterious circumstances. Now, with the town enveloped by environmental issues, Anna returns and is greeted by mixed reactions. Another girl soon goes missing.

Despite its acclaimed first season, though, Foxtel has not yet renewed the series for a second run. "We are extremely excited for our line up in 2017 but regrettably we are unable to confirm if we will be airing a second season of The Kettering Incident or Secret City at this stage," a Foxtel spokesperson told DeciderTV in December.

However, Foxtel executive director of television Brian Walsh also revealed in the same month that a second season is already in development.

"I knew that we had something special on our hands but I wasn't prepared for the incredible reaction we had to it," Walsh told The Australian. "Our fans demand that we tie up some storylines that were unravelled in the first instalment. A second series of Kettering is something that is in our plans for the next couple of years."

While that may be the case, it seems that 2017 will not see season 2 of "The Kettering Incident." In Foxtel's unveiling of this year's lineup, the drama series was noticeably absent. But when season 2 eventually rolls around, what will the story hold for viewers?

For one thing, it has been said that the plot will be taken to darker places, but details have been rather scarce. With lingering questions left open at the end of the season 1 finale, fans can expect some answers come season 2.
