Meanwhile, Disney is not the only one planning to take on a live-action adaptation of the film. A report from Vanity Fair revealed that Universal will also be working on a live-action adaptation of "The Little Mermaid," which will star Chloe Grace Moretz. The film will be based on Hans Christian Andersen's story, which is different from Disney's version.

It was said that "The Little Mermaid" is a special undertaking for Disney as it will aid in bringing in the new age of Disney movies. Other live-action films are expected to release in the near future such as "Beauty and The Beast" and "Aladdin." Disney is also planning for a live action spin-off of "101 Dalmatians," which will be called "Cruella." The film will feature Emma Stone as the notorious villain.

"Dumbo" is also being developed by Tim Burton, as well as "Mary Poppins" by Rob Marshall. There are speculations that Angelia Jolie will reprise her role as Maleficent in the upcoming "Maleficient 2." The recently released "The Jungle Book" is also said to have a sequel, which will be directed by Jon Favreau. A live action adaptation of "Tinkerbell" is also expected, with Reese Witherspoon as the star.
