'The Path' Season 1 News, Spoilers: Co-Stars, Hulu Boss Says Hugh Dancy Is 'Perfect' as Cal Roberts

As the beguiling and sinister leader of a religious movement in "The Path," "Hannibal" alum Hugh Dancy is so "perfect" that his co-stars say that they would probably buy whatever he's selling.

Hulu's new drama series, "The Path," debuted on Wednesday, March 30. Apart from its careful and intelligent handling of the tricky subject of religion, the series has also been commended for its cast member's brilliant performances. Dancy, who plays Cal Roberts, the new leader of the fictional Meyerist Movement, is particularly believable.

"He is so perfect for this role," "Breaking Bad" alum Aaron Paul told E! News. "He's just so charismatic, so charming, and that's what this role has to have. And I absolutely buy into everything he is selling."

In an interview with Variety, "Mission: Impossible III" actress Michelle Monaghan said, "I'd totally follow him into whatever sort of movement, cult, religion, whatever you want to call it."

In "The Path," which takes a dark look into the world inhabited by the members of a cult-like religion called The Meyerist Movement, Paul and Monaghan play Eddie and Sarah Lane. The series follows the Lanes, a married couple who belong to the controversial group, as they navigate each of their paths in and around Meyerism. Eddie, a convert, grapples with doubts about his new faith. His wife Sarah, born to a Meyerist family, is one of the central figures of the movement.

Meanwhile, Dancy plays Cal, who works on getting more people to join the movement while its founder is in Peru trying to craft the movement's tenets.

"He's got to be charismatic, menacing and sympathetic," Craig Erwich, Hulu's head of content, told Variety about Dancy's role. "There's not a lot of people who can check off all three boxes."

"There is a kind of transition of power—or maybe leadership is a better word—and my character Cal is basically positioning himself to take over," Dancy told E! According to the actor, his character's motives will be put in question. Is he merely being benevolent or does he have some sort of underlying personal ambition?

Find out when "The Path" drops a new episode on Wednesday, April 6, on Hulu.
