'The Sims 5' News and Updates: Will It Come with Augmented Reality Gameplay? Rumored Features and What to Expect

When it comes to life simulation video games, almost nothing can beat the "Sims" series. The fourth iteration of the main franchise was released three years ago and fans have already been clamoring for new updates. As a response, Maxis, The Sims Studio, and Electronic Arts may have something brewing up—"The Sims 5".

'The Sims 4' Reception

"The Sims 4" was undoubtedly great when it was launched in 2013. However, as the years passed, the gameplay became somewhat bland and monotonous to many users. Several expansion and game packs were released, but were not received well by the public. There were also stuff packs, editions, and other downloadable content, but those that were released recently met the same fate.

The years went by and fewer additional content were released by EA. If they ever do release one, quality has been pointed out to be somewhat mediocre and not up to par with the usual Sims standards. This situation had fans worried about the fate of "The Sims 4". However, there were a few hopefuls that the reason behind this is that the companies are focusing instead on the development of "The Sims 5".

'The Sims 5' Augmented Reality Simulation

"The Sims 5" was originally slated to be released on 2019. However, both demand and competition may have been factors in pressuring Maxis and The Sims Studio to fast track the development and eventual release of "The Sims 5".

To make things a lot more interesting, there are plenty of rumors suggesting that "The Sims 5" would incorporate Augment Reality technology to the gameplay. With the huge success of "Pokemon Go", augmented reality games are foreseen to be the future of mobile video games.

This being said, it would somewhat be a challenge for "The Sims 5". The main platform for the life simulation game are desktop computers—whether Windows or Mac PC. The main goal of augmented reality is to give the players the ability to actually move around, explore, and see the actual game environment blossoming. With stationary platforms such as PC, the main concept is just not possible.

This is why the studios are looking to develop a proper mobile version for "The Sims 5". There is currently a mobile version of "The Sims", but was not received well due to its scrappy gameplay and graphics which are miles behind the original franchise. With the new move to augmented reality, "The Sims 5" seeks to offer a much more immersive experience to players.

The Future

All these are still sitting in the rumor mill though, and must be taken with a grain of salt. Some rumors even say that the 2019 release date for "The Sims 5" still holds true as the companies are still focusing on improving "The Sims 4". Whichever the case is, the life simulation game franchise has nothing but improvement ahead of them.
