'The Walking Dead' Season 7 News, Spoilers: EP Says Fans Will Be 'Out Of [Their] Misery Soon'

In the week that has passed since AMC's "The Walking Dead" aired its climactic season 6 finale and left viewers with a giant cliffhanger, fans have taken to social media to air their disappointment and anger over what many called a "cop-out."

But while many are lamenting over the fact that they will have to wait many months before they get an answer to the big question left at the end of the finale, "The Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Ann Hurd now says that it won't be long until fans get the resolution they want.

Speaking from the recent London screening of "Fear the Walking Dead," Hurd said (via CNET), "I promise you'll be out of your misery very soon."

"And so will someone else!" she teased.

The "TWD" boss went on to explain why the sixth season had to be capped off with a dangling cliffhanger. "I understand the frustration," she said, "but we wanted this moment to be about the introduction of Negan. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is fantastic."

Meanwhile, "The Walking Dead" showrunner Scott M. Gimple recently spoke to IGN about what fans can expect from the seventh season of the popular zombie apocalypse series. According to Gimple, season 7 will feature a wide variety of characters, tones, and locales. It will also have what may be the largest variety of stories ever done on "The Walking Dead," he said.

"I can say without spoiling anything, things are going to start off very, very dark because everybody knows where we're starting," Gimple said about the season 7 premiere. He also spoke about the theme for the new season, saying, "The world is not what they thought it was, so how do you basically start over in this new world, in this place that you had no idea it was what it is."

"How do you begin again with that?" he asked.

The new season of "The Walking Dead" will premiere later this year.
