'Thor: Ragnarok' News, Release Date: New Featurette Highlights Cate Blanchett as Hela

The "Thor: Ragnarok" release date is just a month away, and Marvel Studios has dropped a new featurette highlighting Cate Blanchett's Hela, the new female villain who will wreak havoc in Asgard. Although previous films in the franchise already featured female villains, this is the first time a female character will serve as the primary antagonist.

The featurette shows Blanchett explaining her role, who will take center stage as the film's central villain. According to the actress, fans will find Hela appealing because of what she does. Blanchett revealed that in the movie, fans would love and hate Hela at the same time, adding more appeal to the character. She went on to add that some of Hela's happiest moments are when she beats people up and throws axes at them.

Filmmaker Taika Waititi also supported Blanchett's claim, saying in the footage that Hela is something the Marvel Cinematic Universe has never seen before. "[Hela] destroyed the idea of playing your typical villain," the director said in the featurette.

Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, also described Hela as a woman with an "insane, off-kilter attitude," doing things that seem too daring for a female, such as utterly destroying Asgard, facing off against the Asgardian brothers, and trying to convince Skurge (Karl Urban) to join her army. Towards the end of the video, Blanchett laughs out loud, as she says that it's great that the upcoming film will treat fans to a showdown between Hela and Thor.

Considering the footage offering a glimpse of Hela in the upcoming film, fans can expect Blanchett to deliver a more stellar performance in "Thor: Ragnarok" than in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," where she played female antagonist Irina Spalko. In the upcoming film, she will play the Goddess of Death who escapes from prison and moves to take over Asgard.

"Thor: Ragnarok" will hit theaters on Nov. 3.
