'Tremors' TV Reboot Starring Kevin Bacon to Air on SyFy

SyFy is looking to make a reboot of "Tremors," the '90s monster film about subterranean burrowing creatures. Kevin Bacon, one of the original cast members, will reprise his role as Valentine "Val" McKee in the pilot for a potential TV series.

Bacon will also serve as executive producer of the adaptation that will pick up 25 years after the events of the first film. After nearly destroying the town of Perfection, Nevada, the killer Graboid worms are back and the town's only hope is Val, who is among the few people who successfully killed them in the past.

"Tremors" had moderate success in the box office but was well received on home video, leading to a number of sequels and a cult following. The final installment of the series was released in 2015 and was well received by fans of the franchise. Bacon, however, did not reprise his role in any of the sequels.

According to Bacon, Val is the only character he has ever thought of revisiting thinking where would he be in 25 years. He believes showrunner Andrew Miller has an interesting take on the film and they hope to make a series that will be both fun and scary for fans.

It would be remarkable to note that Bacon felt that his role in the film was a career low for him. He reportedly broke down on the sidewalk saying that he couldn't believe he starred in a film about underground worms.

But after 27 years and four sequels, it would be interesting to see what Bacon fees about his role now. However, by starring in the SyFy reboot, it appears he has already given an answer.

The series will be part of SyFy's branding refresh in time for the network's 25th anniversary. As a part of the refresh, the network is planning to release more original programming and give science fiction fans a home where they can enjoy the genre.

"Tremors" would be Bacon's second television series after "I Love Dick."
