"True Detective" Season 2 ended and earned an opposite reaction from viewers. While Season 1 got high praises and good reviews, Season 2, on the other hand, is quite the opposite, which left viewers questioning if a third season is possible. HBO has not committed if "True Detective" Season 3 is coming up.
A Positive Note On The Third Season
However, HBO has been optimistic that the series is not dead as of yet. One of the things that make it look bright for a possible Season 3 is that HBO decided to do a contract deal with series creator, Nic Pizzolatto.

In fact, in a recent report, HBO programming head, Casey Bloys stated that the series is not over and that he spoke with Pizzolatto and HBO for a next season and both parties are open about it. He further added that Nic Pizzolatto might not be up to the next season but the production will take on a new writer with Nic supervising the works. Bloys then concluded that "True Detective" is a good series but for now a third season is just not yet in the works.
In a different report, HBO president Michael Lombardo noted that if Nic Pizzolatto wants to do a third season then the company is open to it. He also praised the writer and creator of the series to be an "enormously talented writer."
Having a third season for the "True Detective" series looks positive with the way things are with HBO and Pizzolatto. Thus, a lot of weight of getting the series rolling is on Pizzolatto on being a writer for the next season.
The Cast
"True Detective" is an anthology series written by Nic Pizzolatto and the first season starred Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Potts, and Tory Kittles. The season is set in Louisiana which follows the pursuit of two Louisiana State Police of a serial killer for seventeen years.
Furthermore, the second season includes Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly, and Vince Vaughn which is set in California. In this Season 3, detectives investigate a crime of a corrupt politician from a series of crimes being followed.
As of the moment, a third season is still in negotiation with HBO and Pizollato. Yet, there is a possibility that the negotiations may be on a positive note. With a third season coming to materialize, it is something to look forward especially the potential stars for the next instalment.
