'Vikings' Season 4: Death May Be Waiting for King Ragnar

"Vikings" season 4 may bring death to King Ragnar Lodbrok, and one of his sons will rise up to take his place on the royal throne.

"Vikings" executive producer Michael Hirst teased that King Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) may die in season 4 and Bjorn Ironside will become his successor. He will be walking a narrow line between life and death, and the producers are hoping that the viewers will still patronize the show even though a new king will sit on the throne, according to the Venture Capital (VC) Post.

"It's very important to note that he's not only sick, he's hovering from life and death. Travis has been absolutely charismatic and magnificent," the VC Post quotes Hirst's statement. "But by that stage his sons will be young, hot guys and hopefully the audience will already be engaged with them and wants to follow them."

Based on the synopsis for "Vikings" season 4, King Ragnar will be severely hurt during a Paris siege, pushing his sons Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig), Sigurd "Snake-in-the-Eye," and Ivar the Boneless to become candidates for the throne. Fimmel's character will also undergo a lot of difficult times, including a rocky marriage with Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland), the Master Herald reports.

The fourth season of the historical drama series will mark the last time that Fimmel will play King Ragnar because he wants to concentrate on his movie career. He has been cast as the lead character Andruin Lothar in the upcoming "Warcraft" movie. While Vikings was the show that propelled him to fame, the actor wants to expand his horizon by going for movies instead of being contented with TV shows, the report relays.

For now, the management is trying to carefully craft Fimmel's exit from the show in such a way that it will be less painful for its viewers.

"Vikings" season 4 is set to begin airing next year on the History Channel, but the exact premiere date has yet to be announced.
