'Wolverine 3' release date, plot rumors: Professor X may not be same according to Patrick Stewart
Recently, Hugh Jackman caused rejoice among his fans when he tweeted a picture confirming "Wolverine 3." Now it seems that another X-men character has confirmed appearance in the movie.
Screenrant reports that Patrick Stewart will definitely be returning to take up the role of one of the most iconic X-Men characters, Professor X in Wolverine 3. However, those who have known Professor Charles Xavier in the past film might apparently be a little surprised at the way his character will be portrayed in the said film. In a recent interview, he talks about how he visited late "X-Men: Apocalypse" film set and reprising his role in the last installment of the Wolverine franchise.
He is quoted saying, "I am told a Wolverine movie in development that would include Charles Xavier, but in a very different Charles Xavier than the one we have seen before. And I don't quite know what that means, but I am very, very excited about it. I love Hugh and I love working with him and James Mangold I believe is set to direct and he is terrific so we shall see."
Although it seems like there is no definite details about the movie, Stewart's appearance in the film may just be a cameo, especially if the new movie follows the previous movie's timeline. Furthermore, he also expressed his curiosity with the idea of Wolverine getting old. According to MTV, in the recent comic-con, Hugh Jackman, who plays Wolverine, told the crowd about where the upcoming movie's plot might be heading to. He said, "I've got three words for you guys. Old Man Logan. Take from that what you will."
"Old Man Logan" is a 2008 eight-issue comic mini-series that has a storyline set in the alternate universe of where supervillains rule the world. In this version, Wolverine had settled down and has a family in a future timeline. One of the problems that Fox might encounter in following this plot religiously is the appearance of many characters that they do not own, such as Hawkeye (Marvel owned). Meaning, if they would want to continue with this, they will probably have to change a lot with the characters to make the whole film work.
For now, fans think that Old Man Logan would be the most logical story to follow, if this will indeed be the last of the movie franchise, as the story can give a good closure to Wolverine's character. There are still a lot of time for writers and producers to develop their vision for the movie as Wolverine 3 is set to hit theatres on March 3, 2017.
