WWE Rumors and Updates 2016: Paige 'Quits' WWE; Superstar Reportedly Hires Lawyer

The latest WWE feud might turn into a legal one.

During its long, treacherous run as the top brand in professional wrestling, WWE clearly has a penchant for attracting controversy. Maybe that is why they like to call it "sports entertainment" because a lot of times, in-ring storylines meet the personal issues of their talents.

Real-life feuds between Randy Orton and Triple H, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels, and Edge and Matt Hardy over Lita fueled some of the biggest rivalries in WWE history. The latest altercation, however, is between the company and its talents—and it is blowing out of proportion.

Paige leaving for good?

Over the past months, Paige has been one of the most interesting superstars. On her first night in the main roster after being called up from NXT, she pinned AJ Lee to win what was then the Divas Championship belt.

Recently, however, Paige is being put through her toughest times with the company. Last May, she announced her relationship with fellow superstar Alberto Del Rio and it was welcomed warmly by the WWE Universe.

The problem was the people backstage. It is rumored that the company and the locker room were not fans of the new couple—or Del Rio, for that matter. The former world champion reportedly had a bad attitude that ruffled feathers among his colleagues.

As such, the WWE allegedly played rough with the two; splitting them into different brands during the 2016 Draft and even harassing them over their relationship.

The company had vehemently denied meddling into the couple's private lives, but it did little to calm the situation.

Legal action

As of press time, both superstars are serving a 30-day suspension for a yet unclear violation of the wellness policy. Paige also has an injury keeping her out of the roster.

However, the freedom to depart from WWE is lopsided between the two. Del Rio's contract is set to expire this fall and is expected to hold a press conference on Friday to address his status with the company.

Meanwhile, Paige is still signed to the company until 2019, although WWE is reportedly trying to find somewhere to release the superstar. To add to the frenzy, she is rumored to have hired a lawyer after "quitting" the company.

Whichever way this goes down the stretch, it seems Paige's numbers are up with the sports entertainment brand. Call it a waste of potential for the longest-reigning NXT Women's Champion, but for Vince McMahon's empire, it is all about business.
