WWE Smackdown Live News: AJ Styles Defeats Jinder Mahal, to Face Brock Lesnar in Survivor Series
AJ Styles becomes the new WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) champion after defeating Jinder Mahal at last night's episode of "Smackdown Live."
Using his Phenomenal Forearm to pin Mahal down, Styles won his second WWE title in Manchester as he ended his opponent's championship reign. While Mahal had been a champion since May, he failed to charm the WWE fans, hence, Styles' win at last night's event had the fans talking online.
"AJ Styles is WWE champion and suddenly everything makes sense again," commented one wrestling fan on Twitter.
Because of Styles' win, he has now been set up for a dream Survivor Series match with Universal Champion Brock Lesnar in a non-title champion vs champion bout. While the match between the two wrestlers is expected to be officially set on Raw next week, some wrestling pundits already opine that it will reignite Lesnar's grit for wrestling.
Among the WWE wrestlers who have yet to challenge Lesnar, there is no denying that Styles is one of the biggest names. As the new WWE champion has the talent to effectively match whoever he faces in the square ring, it is expected that his bout with the Universal champion will be one fight that is worth anticipating.
While some believe that it may be impossible for Styles to beat Lesnar in an actual fight, some predict that their upcoming match will be a David-Goliath type of fight that will provide an exciting atmosphere in the WWE. For many, while Mahal is the better and more convincing opponent for Lesnar because of their similar build, the Indian wrestler simply just lacks the talent that can match that of Brosnar.
This early, wrestling pundits suspect that the match between Styles and Lesnar could end up as one of the greatest in WWE history, and the upcoming Survivor Series may be the best pay-per-view of 2017 wrestling event for this year.
Whether this will really be the case or not, wrestling fans will just have to wait and see.
