ZTE Quartz Leak, Release Date News: Leaked Specs, Design Show Competitive Features; Smartwatch Expected at MWC 2017

While Apple Watch and Samsung Gear are dominating the global market, ZTE joins the competition with its own smartwatch. Leaked details of the ZTE Smartwatch appeared on several tech websites, showing impressive specs that contend with that of the popular brands.

Popular leaker Evan Blass shared on his Twitter account an alleged image of the ZTE Quartz. In an article by Venture Beat, the smartwatch may be the first wearable gadget that the company will present to the market.

Apple and Samsung are already considered veterans in releasing such devices and they are out to introduce their respective next-generation watches. As per the marketing material shared by the publication, the ZTE Quartz has all the necessities that a competitive Android wear possesses.

With the model number ZW10, the ZTE Quartz will reportedly have Bluetooth connectivity. Its round-shaped design is believed to carry Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) 3G cellular connectivity to complement its Wi-Fi radio. It is also possible that calls can be made and can be received via the smart wristwatch.

Tech aficionados say that the anticipated device will be revealed at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC), which starts on Feb. 27 in Barcelona, Spain. This is due to the fact that the company has already introduced two watches at the same event last year.

Back then, they showed off a couple of devices called Venus 1 and Venus 2, which were positioned as activity trackers. According to the publication, the watches have no robust specs to make them a fully functional wearable device.

ZTE has already used the name "Quartz" when they released a smartphone with a 5.5-inch display and an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean running under the hood. However, it did not perform well in the market, according to IB Times.

The upcoming smartwatch can allegedly be paired with devices running on Android 4.3 versions or later. It may also be compatible with iOS 8.2.
