14 Years Later, This Teen is Finally Given the Gift of Hearing – Thanks to a Revolutionary Procedure!

Most people would not know what it is like to lose hearing. It almost seems impossible to imagine living life without it. Over five percent of the world's population -- over 360 million people -- has some form of hearing loss, including Maggie Gleason. But with today's advancements something miraculous occurs for Maggie.

This story is about one determined teenager who overcomes her profound hearing loss in the most amazing way. Maggie fought for her life as a child, only to cope with deafness as a teenager.

Fortunately, a miraculous auditory implant was given to her, completely bypassing her ear and going straight to the brain. The device is still in its tril period and not yet approved by FDA, but it was Maggie's first chance at being able to hear. She is the first to receive surgery jusing this technology.

Maggie was able to hear her parents speak for the first time in her life. Not only that, she had a big SMILE on her face when she heard all that was going on in her house.
