2012 January Product Recalls: IKEA High Chairs, Infant Rattles

January 2012 has seen a number of product recalls. A look at the CPSC recall list reveals a wide range of products and items that were recalled this month.

Items recalled in January include: Infant Rattles, which were recalled by Lee Carter Co. due to choking hazard, as well as children's chairs and stools recalled by Elegant Gifts Mart due to violation of lead paint standard.

Other recalls included IKEA recalling "Repair High Chairs" due to a potential fall hazard, and Big Lots recalling its floor lamps due to a shock hazard.

Every month thousands of items are recalled for a variety of reasons, with many products being found to potentially be extremely dangerous to the public.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has the task of tracking items and to inform the public of any problems and in extreme cases of recalls.

The CPSC website describes: "CPSC is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death from thousands of types of consumer products."

The commission's website allows users to search for recalled items, and information can be found on over 5,000 product recalls and recall alerts using the various search functions.
