2018 Lexus NX Crossover Confirmed for Auto Shanghai 2017

Lexus has announced that a refreshed version of the NX luxury compact crossover will make its official debut next month at Auto Shanghai 2017.

NX, whose name stands for "Nimble Crossover," was first introduced in late 2014. According to Toyota's luxury division, the first-generation crossover launched with an expressive design language, spacious and comfortable interiors and provided a dynamic driving experience.

Now, leveraging these impressive features, Lexus is set to introduce an updated version of the urban crossover in order to meet the evolving needs of luxury consumers.

To hype its upcoming global launch, Lexus released a teaser image that previews the 2018 NX's front fascia, specifically highlighting its slimmer headlights and an updated version of Lexus' signature spindle grille.

In a press release, the luxury automaker also revealed that the luxury compact crossover will feature an updated exterior design as well as interior enhancements that will be more functional and convenient for the driver and the passengers. Unfortunately, specific details for these upgrades have yet to be revealed.

Likewise, there's no mention of powertrain options for the 2018 NX yet. To recall, the current NX is offered in two trims in the United States: NX 200t and NX 300h. The former is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 235 horsepower while the latter is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain that yields 194 horsepower.

Motor Authority also mentioned that Lexus filed a trademark for "NX 300" with the U.S. Parent and Trademark Office last year, so there's a possibility that the 2018 NX will add one more powertrain option, possibly utilizing a V6 configuration.

Official details and technical specifications for the refreshed NX will be announced during Auto Shanghai 2017. Lexus will have a press conference in Hall 6.1 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center on Wednesday, April 19.

The facelifted luxury compact crossover is then expected to arrive at U.S. dealers later this year as a 2018 model.
