3 things to know about the latest allegations against Eric Swalwell
2. Multiple women accuse Swalwell of sexual misconduct
A growing number of women have accused Swalwell, who has served in the House since 2013, of sexual assault and harassment. Swalwell has denied the allegations.
One accuser, Lonna Drewes, claimed during a news conference earlier this month that Swalwell drugged, raped and choked her in a California hotel room in 2018.
Multiple women, including a former staffer, have made allegations against the former congressman in recent weeks.
The former staffer told CNN that Swalwell twice sexually assaulted her, once in 2019 and again in 2024. By the time of the alleged 2024 incident, the woman was no longer working for Swalwell.
“I was pushing him off of me, saying no,” the woman told CNN about the alleged 2024 incident. “He didn’t stop.”
Other women who spoke with CNN accused the former congressman of various forms of misconduct. Social media creator Ally Sammarco claimed she received unsolicited nude messages from Swalwell, while another woman accused the Democratic lawmaker of kissing her and touching her leg without consent.
“These allegations are false and come on the eve of an election against the front-runner for governor,” Swalwell said in a statement.
“For nearly 20 years, I have served the public — as a prosecutor and a congressman — and have always protected women. I will defend myself with the facts and, where necessary, bring legal action,” he added. “My focus in the coming days is to be with my wife and children and defend our decades of service against these lies.”
