3 things to know about the gunman killed outside White House who once called himself Jesus Christ
1. Best believed he was Jesus Christ
The shooting Saturday was not Nasire Best’s first encounter with the Secret Service, according to court records cited by CNN. Records show that Best was “known to the Secret Service” for “walking around the White House complex inquiring how to gain access at various entry points.”
According to court records, the 21-year-old entered a restricted area outside the White House on July 10, 2025. After multiple officers confronted him, Best claimed that he was Jesus and said “that he wanted to get arrested,” according to the report.
Court documents also show that Best was involuntarily committed on June 26, 2025, for “obstructing vehicle entry” to part of the White House complex.
Social media posts attributed to Best included one that appeared to threaten violence against President Donald Trump and another that declared, “I’m actually the Son of God.”
