2. Progression of sin, hostility to Christianity and Satan's growing influence

Noting that Jesus Christ described Satan as "the prince of this world," Ripperger suggested that "Satan and the demons are gaining much greater ascendancy over the world" amid proliferating immorality and growing antipathy toward Christianity.

After noting that open hostility toward Christians is rising as demons increasingly push people in power to punish them, Ripperger cited Thomas Aquinas' observation regarding the moral degradation that takes place as individuals and societies slide from winking at sin to ultimately loving evil while hating what is good.

"There's a structure to how human beings go from pursuing and seeing the good to actually pursuing things that are evil," he said. He offered Aquinas' example of a man who first falls into fornication with a woman before persisting in sin with her until his morality becomes inverted and corrupt.

"Eventually, he starts thinking that, 'Well, fornication isn't wrong.' And then, as he keeps fornicating, then what he actually thinks is that, 'Well, no, fornication is actually a good thing,'" he said. "Then what happens next: 'Well, people who tell me fornication's bad, they're evil people, because I know fornication's good.' That is the exact progression we actually saw in this country."

Ripperger claimed American decline into rampant sexual immorality began with the Greatest Generation, whose secret sexual sins rendered them powerless to push back when their baby boomer children openly threw off moral restraints. The endgame, he said, is a culture in moral chaos, where those who hold fast to sexual morality are not only considered strange, but evil.

"Now you have people who, when you say, 'Hey, you need to be chaste. You guys need to stop doing this,' they get attacked. And so, in addition to the demons driving this, now you have people whose lives are so disordered that what they see as good is bad. And what they see as bad is actually good," he said.

He added that Christ warned His disciples of a time "when they will actually believe that by eradicating the people who follow Him, they're actually doing the will of God," referencing John 16:2.
