5 highlights from Tuesday's elections: Platner wins in Maine; Trump’s candidates advance

5. Highly competitive Nevada gubernatorial race set

While Tuesday’s primaries primarily took place in states that tend to favor one party in presidential elections, one of the swing states that determined the 2024 presidential election also held primaries on Tuesday in Nevada.

Unofficial results show Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo, endorsed by Trump, winning renomination with more than 90% of the vote.

Lombardo will face off against Democrat Aaron Ford, who won his party’s nomination with 63.7% of the vote, in the general election. The RealClearPolitics average of polls examining voter preferences in the state’s gubernatorial election indicates that a close race is on the horizon, with Lombardo leading Ford by just 0.5 percentage points.

Meanwhile, Trump’s endorsed candidates won their respective Republican primaries in Nevada’s 1st Congressional District, 2nd Congressional District and 3rd Congressional District. Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District, the only one in the state represented by a Republican, is open this year, while the other two districts have Democratic incumbents.

Trump did not make an endorsement in the Republican primary for Nevada’s 4th Congressional District, which also has a Democratic incumbent. Republicans are favored in Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District, which Trump carried by double digits, while Democrats are favored in the other three, even though Trump narrowly won Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District and narrowly lost the other two.
