If you need gift ideas for your kids, here are five affordable options that you can get in time for Christmas. And much more importantly, these presents can help your child learn about Jesus and know the joy of following Him.

The Bible App for Kids is an app for iOS and Android that combines kid-friendly Scripture text with beautiful interactive animations and narration. It does a great job of balancing the story of the Bible with the interactive features, so it's more than just a game. It's an experience that presents the Gospel in a way that will stay with your child. Plus, it costs nothing, and you only have to wait until it finishes downloading to your device.

2. VeggieTales DVD - $10 on Amazon.com

The VeggieTales movies I've seen have been sharply animated with fun and uplifting storylines that line up with Scripture. That beats out about 95% of kids entertainment options right there. Plus, the humor is much more than slapstick, and the songs are clever and catchy.

3. Jesus Storybook Bible - $10 on Amazon.com

If you have a child and don't have the Jesus Storybook Bible, I implore you: Get it. It's sparked in my kids what I pray will be a lifelong interest in God's Word. Sally Lloyd-Jones' writing is elegant and easy to understand, while Jago's illustrations bring it to life in eye-popping fashion. But what makes the JSB stand out is that Lloyd-Jones crafted every story in a way that I think God did, too: She shows how each chapter, from Creation to the Exodus to the kings and prophets, points to Jesus. I'm happy every time my kids ask me to read it to them, for my sake as well as theirs.

4. Seeds Family Worship CD - $15 on Amazon.com

Seeds Family Worship writes songs that aren't just based on Scripture, they ARE Scripture, word-for-word. This music was written to help kids memorize Scripture, and it works. They've done a great job of setting Bible passages to song in ways that fit together and just sound good.

5. Sponsorship Through Compassion International - $38/month

Sponsoring a child through Compassion International is much more of a financial investment than the other gifts, but it's a incomparably greater investment in the life of a child in need in another country. As your family gets to know your sponsored child, your own kids will have an international partner to grow in faith with.
