Kamala Harris made history by becoming the first woman and first black and Southeast Asian to be sworn in as vice president of the United States.

For the ceremony, Harris took an oath administered by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, herself the first Hispanic member of the high court.

Also, as The Christian Post reported on Monday, one of the two Bibles used in Harris’ swearing-in was owned by Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court Justice.  

A final note of historic milestone came with her replacement, as her vacant Senate seat was filled by Alex Padilla, California’s first Hispanic U.S. Senator.
