3. Phillips is one of the wealthiest members of Congress with a background in business

A 2019 article in Fortune magazine identified Phillips as the sixth-wealthiest member of Congress, with a net worth of $77 million. As explained in the article, “Phillips is heir to the Phillips Distilling Company, a Minnesota-based distillery that produces a variety of liquors and was also the co-owner of Gelato company Talenti.” 

Although Business Insider listed Phillips’ net worth at $24 million in a 2021 article, he still came in as the 21st wealthiest member of Congress. The publication noted that Phillips co-founded the Minnesota-based coffee chain Penny’s Coffee and had served as CEO of Phillips Distillery Company.
