State voting records cited by USA Today show Routh participating in general and municipal elections going back many cycles, including 2008 and 2012, but not in 2016 when Trump first ran. According to FOX 8, however, Routh posted on social media that he voted for former President Trump in 2016 but was disappointed in his vote afterwards. In 2016, state records show Routh as unaffiliated with a political party. Records show he voted in the Democrat Primary in Guilford County, North Carolina, in March this year.
