'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 4 Spoilers: Ghost Rider's Blazing Entry; Later Time Slot for a Darker Season

Coulson is not sure if Robbie Reyes is a friend or foe to the S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4 is said to be gearing up for a slightly darker feel when it returns onscreen. As such, ABC is pushing for the show for a later 10 p.m. slot.

This was among the revelations divulged by the producers and cast recently. They also announced the addition of some new characters and who among the old ones will be returning to the comic book TV series.

Jeph Loe, the head of Marvel Television, said that "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4 will be its biggest and most ambitious season yet. For starters, one of Marvel's greatest legacy characters, Ghost Rider, will be introduced in the upcoming season.

The Ghost Rider is coming

In the fourth season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", the Spirit of Vengeance will be depicted in Roberto "Robbie" Reyes (played by Gabriel Luna) character instead of Johnny Blaze's Ghost Rider persona. The latter, which is played by Nicolas Cage in the two big screen movies, is traditionally known as a flame-skulled supernatural motorcycle driver. But Robbie Reyes' version will instead drive around in a street racing car.

He will enter the lives of Coulson and the team as a junkyard mechanic. Coulson will be distracted in searching for Daisy upon meeting Robbie since he does not know if Reyes is a friend or a foe to the S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." creator Jess Whedon refused to confirm if two series original characters, Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) will be returning in Season 4. ABC recently cancelled their spin-off series Marvel's "Most Wanted". Whedon teased that information about their return to the fold is classified, but told everyone to stay tuned.

Who will be coming back based on the synopsis?

The official synopsis of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." reveals which characters will be returning in Season 4, as well as what they are up to. It says that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been legitimized because of the Sokovia Accords, which means that the organization no longer needs to operate in the shadows.

S.H.I.E.L.D. also has a new Director, while Coulson will be back as an agent and have since teamed up with Mack. They are tasked to track down and confirm the presence of Enhanced people also called Inhumans.

The two have been tracking down Daisy, who has since gone rogue. However, since the new Director believes that Daisy a.k.a. "Quake" is dangerous, he has no qualms in having her killed.

Meanwhile, Agent May will be training specialized strike teams. Simmons has been promoted as Special Advisor to the Director in Science and Technology. But her former teammates, including Fitz will find it hard to trust her now that she is the Director's confidante.

This is unfortunate since she and Fitz have decided to move forward in their relationship. Fitz will likewise discover that Dr. Radcliffe is putting the finishing touches on a new secret invention.

The only Marvel comic book adaptation on network TV

With the cancellation of "Most Wanted" and "Agent Carter", "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is now the only comic book adaptation series in network TV. "Cloak and Dagger" is at the development stage in Freeform, formerly known as ABC Family. It is scheduled for release in 2017.

However, Marvel continues to expand its Netflix presence with shows like "Daredevil", "Jessica Jones", and "Luke Cage". The streaming giant is also set to launch "Iron Fist", "The Punisher" and "The Defender" in 2017. Also, Marvel has been having huge success in the big screen lately with its blockbuster films.
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4 will return on Tuesday, September 20.
