AirPower Mat, New Apple TV Announced By Apple

Apple has announced a new wireless charging platform by the name of the AirPower mat. The charging pad will support iPhone 8, iPhone X, Apple Watch Series 3, and AirPods. It is set to hit the store shelves next year.

Apple recently unveiled their new flagship devices and proudly announced that in keeping with the dream of letting users wirelessly charge their devices, they will also be equipped with the Qi wireless charging standard. This the same standard being used by Samsung which could suggest that users can also use the mat for non-Apple devices.

Despite the company making a big deal out wireless charging technology at their announcement, it appears that they aren't planning on releasing any actual wireless charging hardware for the iPhone this year.

Instead, they unveiled the Airpower mat, a wireless charging platform. The mat can accommodate up to three of the aforementioned devices at a time and also features fast charging.

This means that users can simply put their Apple gadgets on the mat and charge away removing all unnecessary wires from the equation. There is no price point yet for the AirPower mat.

Apple also announced the new Apple TV at the event, an updated version of its living room set-top box that adds support for 4K and HDR video while at the same time boosts the processing power. Other than that, however, not much else is new when compared with its predecessor. It still offers the centralized TV hub that aggregates video from participating content providers as well as the same apps including Apple's virtual assistant Siri.

It doesn't really offer much of an edge in the market as well given that almost everything supports all the major services at this point. Everything all comes down to which brand has the most bells and whistles that buyers want.

With Google, Amazon, Roku, and even Microsoft with its Xbox One S now getting into the streaming market, competition is definitely bigger than ever.
