Amazon Has Announced That Alexa Can Now Recognize Voices

Google unveiled the Google Home Mini, and while it is affordable, many thought that it was slightly lacking. It seems that Amazon is not taking Google's attempt at catching up lightly, as recent reports have revealed that they have made their voice assistant, Alexa, more capable than ever.

While companies are working hard to bring the best smartphone in the market, it seems that Amazon's attention is elsewhere entirely, as they have been determined to earn and maintain the lead in the race for smart home technology.

"Once you set up the feature, Alexa will learn your voice (versus your spouse/partner/roommate's voice) and be able to deliver a more personalized experience," a company spokesperson told The Verge. "Today the feature is available for calling/messaging, flash briefing, shopping, and the Amazon Music Unlimited Family Plan, and it'll be rolling out to additional Alexa features in the future."

The voice recognition feature can be accessed through the settings of the Echo, Echo Dot, or Echo Show. Users will be required to say 10 phrases, from which Alexa will base its voice recognition on. Once it has been registered, most devices that have support for Amazon's voice assistant will be able to recognize the voice of its user.

Despite Amazon's head start in the smart home department, this is actually a feature that was already available for Google. It was an effective strategy in getting more consumers to buy their products despite the more advanced specs of Amazon's product lineup. With the race consistently getting more intense, especially in their respective recent releases, fans are waiting to see who will come out on top by the end of the year.

More information on Amazon and Google's home devices are available on their websites. In the meantime, Amazon Echo owners can explore Alexa's new voice recognition functionality.
