Apple Watch 2 Release Date Won't Be in March, According to a Report
The Apple Watch 2 release date is not happening in March, according to a new report. A March event could still happen but it won't include a major update for the Apple Watch.
Techcrunch's Matthew Panzarino, who is a longtime Apple watcher, debunks reports of an Apple Watch release date in March. He cites a couple of reasons why he says this.
Panzarino spoke with independent analyst Ben Bajarin of Creative Strategies who told him there have been no movements during supply chain checks that indicate a new Apple Watch is currently in production. The analyst notes, however, how the supply chain did not accurately predict the original Apple Watch's release and how signs of a new watch could have been missed this time around. Bajarin said there are "some interesting new patterns" in Apple's supply chain but it's just making it hard to read the company's plans.

In addition to supply chain, Panzarino also did not hear any major action from the software side of things. Inside sources indicate that Apple has not been developing a new version of its Watch software.
Based on these, Panzarino concludes the Apple Watch 2 will not be coming in March. If any new model does appear, it will have a smaller update. He said the Apple Watch could receive design partnerships and accessories but nothing major in terms of new hardware features.
Panzarino's report comes at the heels of Apple Watch 2 rumors from Commercial Times. According to the Chinese site, Apple will begin an early production of the device at Quanta later this month. The rumor boosts 9to5Mac's projections of the Apple Watch 2 debuting at a March event.
Panzarino doesn't discount a March event. He said his sources have indicated that "something" is in the early planning stages, but as to what that could be he isn't sure. Previous reports expect Apple to reveal a new, smaller iPhone, a new iPad, and new MacBook models.
Apple has not commented on the Apple Watch 2 or on the March event.
