Are Banks Closed on Veterans Day?

Although banks are normally closed on Veterans Day, this year's federal holiday will find some banks and credit unions open for business. On Nov. 11 of every year, this holiday is observed throughout the United States to honor those who have served and risked their lives in the U.S. Armed Forces.

As of recent reports, it's going to be business as usual for many banks on this year's Veterans Day. Since this special day falls on a Saturday this 2017, most schools and government offices will be closed on Nov. 10 instead of 11 to celebrate the holiday. However, this is not necessarily the same for banks.

On Saturday, Nov. 11, the Federal Reserve Bank will reportedly be closed. However, many banks have reportedly opted to stay open on Friday, Saturday, or both. While some banks have decided to be totally closed or open during the holiday, some have already announced that they will be open on Friday and Saturday, although for limited hours only.

Banks that will stay open the whole Friday are TD Bank, Bank of America, Citibank, Chase, Capital One, Citizens, HSBC, PNC, Santander, SunTrust, US Bank, and Wells Fargo. On Saturday, some banks will still be open but many will be closed to observe the Veterans Holiday.

According to reports, it is a hit or miss with bank hours, so it would best for those who plan to make bank transactions to check first with their respective banks if they're open during the holiday. Most likely, bank branches located inside retail stores and supermarkets will be open on Nov. 11.

That said, since most multinational banks already have mobile apps, it should not be a major problem for clients if their banks are closed during the holiday. Through the use of their mobile apps, they can also check their balance, pay their bills, and transfer funds.
