'Attack on Titan' Season 2 News: Anime Gets Official Premiere Date; New Titans Teased
After three long years of waiting, fans finally learn when "Attack on Titan" season 2 will premiere. Funimation has announced that the anime will be back with new episodes on April 1.
The studio also released a summary for the new season to give viewers a picture of what to expect in the most-awaited return of Eren, Levi and company. The description as picked up by Comicbook.com reads:
"Eren Jaeger swore to wipe out every last Titan, but in a battle for his life he wound up becoming the thing he hates most. With his new powers, he fights for humanity's freedom facing the monsters that threaten his home. After a bittersweet victory against the Female Titan, Eren finds no time to rest — a horde of Titans is approaching Wall Rose, and the battle for humanity continues!"
"Attack on Titan" season 2 is expected to pick up from where the first season left off. The new season will also be based on the manga by Hajime Isayama.
The first season covered the first four arcs (36 chapters) of the source material squeezed into 25 episodes. It is unknown at the moment how many episodes "Attack on Titan" season 2 will have.
If the anime will have the same storytelling pace as the first season, the new season might cover only two arcs — "Clash of the Titans" and "Uprising." They have 36 chapters in total, enough to make up a whole season.
However, reports have it that "Attack on Titan" season 2 might catch up to the manga, which has had major plot development in the recent chapters.
Either way, the new season is expected to move the anime forward in big ways. It will introduce a batch of new Titans such as the Beast Titan shown in the trailer.
"Attack on Titan" season 2 will also ultimately change the dynamic between Titans and humanity as it is revealed that not all of the giants are enemies.
