'Bad Boys 3' News: Will Smith Gives His Nod To The Sequel

After almost 13 years, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are finally set to unite on the silver screen as Miami-Dade detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, respectively. Smith himself confirmed that he has given a nod to the sequel.

The confirmation definitely brought a smile to the faces of the fans of the action comedy movie shown in 1995 and 2003 as there were reports last year that he had backed out from the planned sequel. The Hollywood Reporter said last year that an insider had told them that it was not clear if Smith would display his acting chops on the sequel. However, in his interview with Radio 1Xtra, Smith revealed:

"I saw Martin [Lawrence] a few weeks ago. I hadn't seen him for about two years. We just looked at each other. We hugged. In that moment we both knew we were making another Bad Boys. We're definitely doing another one".

Now that it can finally be said that Smith is set to reprise his Mike Lowrey character, the upcoming sequel, though, will reportedly proceed without Michael Bay helming it. Said to be stepping into the shoes of "Bad Boy's" original director is Joe Carnahan, whose forte is action flicks. While this piece of news is not yet confirmed, according to Screen Rant, Carnahan's Twitter photo post of his visualization of a supposed freeway action scene seemed to have bolstered the belief of many people that he is, indeed, officially going onboard for the sequel.

Presently, nothing about the plot of the sequel has been made available to the public.

The first two "Bad Boys" movies feature two Miami police detectives who are not only best friends but are also partners in operations.

The first "Bad Boys," which was shown in 1995, raked in $141,407,024 worldwide, while "Bad Boys 2" grossed $273,339,556 despite poor ratings from movie critics.

Meanwhile, "Bad Boys 3" is slated for a February 17, 2017 release. Its follow-up, "Bad Boys 4" is scheduled for a 2019 showing. It is still unclear, though, if Smith will also be a part of the fourth installation of the action-comedy film.
